This painting was inspired by my son's medical condition, hypothalamic obesity (HO), which developed in the aftermath of a rare brain tumor, craniopharyngioma. The condition, HO, causes unrelenting hunger and resulting weight gain and does not have any effective treatment to date. A low carbohydrate eating plan is recommended to decrease the hunger and weight gain and sugary desserts are to be avoided. The blueberry pie is therefore considered a forbidden fruit, alas, and torments the viewer with the awareness that it cannot be consumed.
